ContractorFinder may offer paid profile enhancements and, in future, clearly labelled promotional placement. This page sets out what money can and cannot buy here. It applies whether or not anyone is currently paying — right now no listing on this site is paid or promoted.
What payment never affects
- Payment does not affect official license information. Licence number, classification, issuing authority, status and the date we checked come from the issuing authority's own record. A contractor cannot pay to change, hide, or improve any of them.
- Payment does not establish or improve licence status. It is not a licence, a certification, or a qualification.
- Payment is not an endorsement, recommendation, guarantee, or vetting decision by ContractorFinder.
- Payment does not make a business better qualified than one that has not paid.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment to hide accurate negative information, licensing problems, suspensions, expirations, or corrections.
- We do not remove accurate information because a business asks us to, or pays us to.
- We do not charge for corrections. Fixing a mistake is free whether or not a business is a customer.
How listings are ordered
Which listings appear on a state, city, or trade page is decided by trade and location. Within a page, listings are ordered alphabetically by business name; on the map a visitor can re-sort by distance. Payment is not part of either step today.
If that changes, any promoted, sponsored, or featured position will be visibly labelled on the listing itself, not only explained on this page.
Unpaid listings are not lesser listings
Most listings here are unclaimed and unpaid. That says nothing about the quality of the business. It usually means the owner has not yet been in touch with us.
What we do not verify
We check a licence record against the issuing authority on a stated date and we publish that date. We do not monitor licences continuously, and we do not check insurance, bonding, criminal history, workmanship, pricing, availability, or the outcome of any job. Nothing here is a guarantee of results. Before you hire, confirm the current licence and insurance yourself with the issuing authority.
